WHAT WE DO

Vertex is an organisation run by local volunteers. It aims to strengthen community engagement as well as promote and encourage interest in cultural activity through devising and promoting a wide selection of cultural events, including arts events, talks, exhibitions, and workshops.

Vertex began in 2017 and is supported by an array of funding sources including: West Kilbride Community Trust, North Ayrshire Council, the Cooperative Society, and the May Lockhart Foundation. Vertex is grateful for their financial support which will enable the organisation to get established and embedded in the cultural offer in North Ayrshire. Chris Maughan

As we move into 2024, it is with great sadness we remember the loss of Chris Maughan. His recent death in mid August has exposed a massive void within Vertex in terms of energy, inspiration, and vision, but also the loss of a kind and generous person.

Chris was the originator of Vertex which was established in 2017, and his passion was organising cultural events for the benefit of the local communities. During the Pandemic we suffered a slump in usual activities such as Music, Workshops and Exhibitions. In 2022 and 2023 Chris focused on re-establishing Vertex, and was particularly excited to bring sold out concerts like Catfish Keith and Fara to West Kilbride.

He was also looking forward to the future evolution of Vertex and all the new ways we would enrich the lives of people within the local community.

Vertex endeavours to carry on in Chris’s footsteps and we hope you will continue to support us. Please look out for future events through the normal channels.
